ASTEC Coaches Talk About Their Teams

High School Girls Basketball Team

The high school girls' team comprises nine committed athletes preparing for a competitive season.

Their coach and athletic director, Mr. Elijah Frederick said, "The team practices concentrate on simulating game situations to enhance their understanding of strategy and teamwork. Our primary goal is to prepare players mentally for the season's challenges. By focusing on situational drills and developing a solid game plan, we aim to cultivate resilience and confidence in our players. With a supportive coaching environment, we are excited to see how these young women will grow and excel in their basketball journey."

High School Boys Basketball Team
Coach Dustin Welch

The ASTEC High School Boys' basketball team has 12 players. Coach Dustin Welch guided the team during pre-season, and the team worked on fundamentals, specifically ball handling. 

"I am excited to see what this year holds for our athletes. Off the court and academically, they have matured a great deal. They have improved their skills on the court and should be even more fun to watch than last year!," said Coach Welch.

Middle School Girls Basketball Team
Coach De'meana Wisby

Eight dedicated 8th-grade girls eager to improve their skills comprise the ASTEC Middle School Girls Basketball Team.

According to their coach, Ms. De'meana Wisby, their focus is mastering the fundamentals of basketball, including dribbling, shooting, and defensive techniques. She emphasizes teamwork and individual development, ensuring each player gains confidence and a solid understanding of the game.

Coach Wisby said, "Our practices include a variety of drills that cater to their growth, allowing them to develop essential skills while fostering a love for the sport."

Middle School Boys Basketball Team
Coach David Finch

The ASTEC Middle School Boys Basketball Team is preparing for an exciting season. Ten scholars are already on the roster, and a few more are expected to join before the season begins.

The team has been focusing on essential skills, including team building, strength and conditioning, and mastering the fundamentals of the game. 

Coach David Finch said, "This group has been a joy to coach, showing enthusiasm and dedication. I am so excited about coaching this team. Our opponents shouldn't count us out just yet, as we'll surprise many people and teams this season."
