ASTEC Charter Schools Dedicates New Soccer Field and Running Track

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla., May 23, 2023- ASTEC Charter Schools announced the completion of their new, regulation-size soccer field and running track. A dedication ceremony was held today to celebrate the opening of this much-anticipated sports field.

In attendance at the event were members of the ASTEC Board of Directors, the ASTEC Fund Board, the ASTEC Advisory Board, community partners, ASTEC parents and scholars, and members of the media. ASTEC soccer players ran across the field and back as a symbol of dedication to the field.

“This is a great benefit for our ASTEC scholars for now and for many years to come. We are so grateful to everyone who made it possible because these students deserve the best,” said ASTEC’s Board Chair, Ms. Debra Murray.

When asked about the event, ASTEC’s school foundation President and Quail Creek Bank President, Mr. Doug Fuller said, “I am a big believer in ASTEC Charter Schools! Installing our new soccer field is just one more step of many on our path to make ASTEC one of the best and most well-rounded schools to educate and develop our students.”

The soccer field project had many partners, including FSB Architects + Engineers, Miller-Tippens Construction, Debi Martin and the City of Oklahoma City, District 1 County Commissioner Carrie Blumert and her Team, Larry Wallis with Newman Development, Signs & Wonders, Fields and Futures, and Cimarron Construction Company.

A grant from the Margaret Annis Boys Trust at the Oklahoma City Communities Foundation provided the trees around the field.

ASTEC Charter Schools began in 2000 as Oklahoma's first start-up charter school with 100 students. Today’s ASTEC includes a new state-of-art elementary school and over 1,300 students in grades PreK - 12. Due to the high demand for enrollment at the elementary school, the construction of a new elementary wing is underway that will add 300 plus additional seats. The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2024.

Exciting plans are underway for a new middle school and high school to be built near the elementary school at 2600 General Pershing Boulevard.
