General Music
Elementary Music engages scholars in singing, listening, moving, and creating to build musical understanding and appreciation. Scholars learn to match pitch, keep a steady beat, and recognize rhythmic and melodic patterns. They explore musical elements such as tempo, dynamics, tone color, and form, and connect music to emotions, cultures, and historical contexts. Through performance, improvisation, and collaboration, scholars develop confidence, creativity, and respect for diverse musical traditions while demonstrating the skills needed for lifelong enjoyment of music.
Art
Elementary Art develops scholars’ creativity and visual literacy through exploration of materials, techniques, and artistic expression. Scholars experiment with drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, and digital media to communicate ideas and personal experiences. They study elements of art—line, color, shape, form, texture, value, and space—and apply principles of design to create balanced and meaningful compositions. Scholars also interpret and respond to artworks from different times and cultures, using observation and discussion to connect art to history, community, and self-expression.
Physical Education
Elementary Physical Education builds scholars’ strength, coordination, and lifelong habits of fitness through movement, games, and skill development. Scholars practice locomotor and manipulative skills such as running, hopping, throwing, catching, kicking, and striking while demonstrating balance, spatial awareness, and safe movement. Cooperative activities and team games teach sportsmanship, communication, and respect for others. Scholars set personal goals, monitor progress toward physical fitness, and apply concepts of health and wellness that support active living inside and outside of school.
